Apple's fall lineup: touch on the Mac, M6, and a new iPad mini

Apple had a busy October. The Mac picked up touch for the first time, the M6 chip arrived in the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, and the iPad mini got its biggest redesign yet. Orders are open now, and the new models are available starting November 6.
If your team has laptop or desktop refreshes planned for the next few months, here's what changed and what it means for your next purchase.
MacBook Pro gets touch
The headline is a new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display and touch support, a first for the Mac. The display uses tandem OLED, which stacks two OLED layers for a brighter, more efficient screen with deeper contrast than what came before.
Touch gives people a more natural way to work with their content: scrubbing through a timeline, marking up a document, or moving things around on screen without reaching for the trackpad. Designers, video editors, and anyone presenting from their laptop will feel the difference first. It comes in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.
M6 lands in the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac
Apple also refreshed the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac with its new M6 chip. These are the workhorse machines for most of the teams we support, so this update will show up in most refresh plans.
For day-to-day work, a new chip generation mostly means a machine that stays fast for longer. That matters when you expect a laptop to last three or four years on someone's desk. If you're buying in the next few months, plan around M6.
A tougher, faster iPad mini
The new iPad mini switches to an OLED display in a thinner and lighter body, runs on the A20 Pro chip, and is now water and dust resistant.
